Breast reconstruction is an operation to replace the breast after mastectomy (removal of a breast), or lumpectomy (removal of part of the breast). Breast reconstruction surgery is a very important part of the emotional and physical recovery for women who have had breast cancer.

Breast reconstruction offers many important psychological benefits to women recovering from cancer.

As well as aesthetic benefits, breast reconstruction allows women to return to an emotional state they enjoyed before their cancer diagnosis.

The breast can be reconstructed with breast implants. Nipples can also be reconstructed along with the new breast, or afterward. Sometimes, the size of the other breast may need to be adjusted to give the best symmetrical result.
