Reconstructive Surgery in Cairns
The goals of reconstructive surgery differ from those of cosmetic surgery. Reconstructive surgery is performed on abnormal structures of the body, caused by birth defects, abnormalities, trauma, injury, infection, tumors, or disease.
It is generally performed to improve function, but may also be done to alter appearance.
There are two categories for reconstructive surgery:
- Congenital defects (birthmarks, cleft lip, absent fingers etc)
- Acquired defects (burns, lacerations, growths, missing limbs due to accident)
If you have been considering reconstructive surgery, schedule a consultation with Dr Ling. We can then determine together whether you are a good candidate for the surgery and discuss all possible outcomes with you. |
